Over 4.1 million minimum wage earners cheered in 2023 as 15 regions across the Philippines adjusted salaries. Nine of these raises were initiated proactively by Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards (RTWPBs), demonstrating a commitment to worker well-being.
Leading the charge, the National Capital Region (NCR) board upped wages by P40 in June, bringing the minimum wage to P610 for non-agricultural jobs and P573 for agriculture. Other regions followed suit, with Northern Mindanao concluding the year with a raise to P438 for non-agricultural and P426 for agricultural sectors.
Only Davao lags behind, but consultations with key stakeholders are underway, and public hearings are set for early 2024. This commitment to transparency ensures workers' voices are heard before finalizing the new wage order.
This widespread pay boost brings a sigh of relief for millions struggling with rising costs. It's a testament to the collaborative efforts of RTWPBs and various government agencies who prioritize protecting Filipino workers' purchasing power.
