Mt. Kanlaon erupted Monday, June 3rd, 2024 at 6:15 PM according to the Philippines Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The eruption sent a plume of ash 5,000 meters high.
Due to the eruption, Phivolcs raised the alert for Kanlaon Volcano from 1 to 2. This indicates increased volcanic activity and the Possibility of further eruptions.
Authorities advise those near the volcano to stay vigilant and avoid the permanent danger zone within a four-kilometer radius to minimize risks from explosions, falling rocks, and landslide. Residents should also wear a damp cloth or dust mask to protect themselves from ash fall it occurs.
Kanlaon Volcano is located on the border of Negro Occidental and Negros Oriental privinces.
