Bamban,Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo remains at large despite a Senate arrest warrant issued for her contempt of Congress.
The order stems from her refusal to attend Senate hearings investigating the alleged human trafficking and abuse linked to Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGOs).
The Senate's Office of the Sergeant-at-arms has been unable to Guo despite visiting all her registered addresses. Authorities have arrested her accountant, Nancy Gamo, but the mayor remains elusive.
Senate President Chiz Escudero and Senator Risa Hontiveros however publicly expressed their determination to apprehend Guo, suggesting she may be in hiding. Senator Sherwin Gatchalian believes Guo might have deeper reasons for evading authorities, but a hold departure order prevents her from leaving the country.
Guo's legal counsel, Atty. Stephen David, has indicated that she may attend the next Senate hearing on July 29, though no guarantees have been made. Escudero has assured Guo of her safety while in Senate custody.
