Canlaon Tourist Attractions Temporarily Closed Due to Volcanic Activity

Mayor Jose Chubasco Cardenas of Bacolod City has ordered the immediate closure of all tourist attractions within the affected barangays of Canlaon City, Negros Oriental, due to the heightened activity of Kanlaon Volcano.

The closure includes popular destinations such as Kanlaon Inland Resort and Eco-Tourism, Padudusan Falls, Bao-Bao Viewing Deck, Quipot Falls, Mount Kanlaon National Park, hot springs, hiking trails, and other scenic spots.

In Executive Order No. 66, Cardenas emphasized the need to prioritize the safety of residents, tourists, and the general public during this period of increased volcanic unrest. He stated that restricting access to tourist areas is crucial to prevent potential harm as the seismic activity of Kanlaon Volcano indicates a possible eruption.

All tourism-related activities, including guided tours, outdoor excursions, and eco-tourism services, have been suspended. The City Tourism Office will coordinate with local businesses to ensure that this information is widely disseminated.

The EO also prohibits access to the four-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) for all individuals, including tourists, hikers, and visitors. Violators will face penalties under existing laws and regulations.

The closure will remain in effect until the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) determines that the threat level at Mount Kanlaon has significantly decreased and the area is safe for public access.
