Kanlaon Evacuees Surge to 423

As of Thursday, September 12, the number of evacuees in Canlaon City, Negros Oriental, due to the increased activity of Kanlaon Volcano, has risen to 423 individuals or 145 families.

Most of the evacuees, 254 individuals from 89 families, are from Barangay Masulog. Other affected barangays include Pula (13 individuals), Malaiba (141 individuals), and Lumapao (15 individuals).

To ensure the safety of evacuees, a 10 p.m. curfew has been imposed in evacuation centers, suspending all operations during this time.

The city government has provided essential supplies to affected residents, including drinking water, N95 masks, food packs, hygiene kits, sleeping kits, kitchen kits, and family kits. Water safety measures are in place, with regular water sampling to ensure the safety of drinking water.

While some families in Masulog have chosen to return home after signing waivers, the city government has emphasized the importance of mandatory evacuation and provided them with detailed information about the risks involved.

Mayor Jose Chubasco Cardenas reiterated the city's commitment to safeguarding residents and urged everyone to follow safety guidelines and stay informed through official advisories.

In a recent LDRRMC meeting, the city approved a cash grant of P500 for each evacuee aged 18 and above. The city government will also ensure that operational needs for disaster response personnel are fully covered, allowing barangay funds to be used solely for local disaster operations.

Meanwhile, La Carlota City in Negros Occidental has extended the suspension of classes in four barangays due to Kanlaon's activity. Schools in Barangays Ara-al, Haguimit, San Miguel, and Yubo have been closed since Wednesday, September 11.
