Alice Guo, the former mayor of Bamban, Tarlac, has been returned to the Philippines after being arrested in Indonesia. Guo is facing multiple charges, including involvement in illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming operations and lying about her identity.
Upon her return, Guo was immediately taken into custody and placed in a detention facility at Camp Crame. The Philippine National Police (PNP) has assured that she will receive no special treatment and will be subject to the same rules and regulations as other detainees.
Guo's arrest and return to the Philippines have sparked controversy. Many Filipinos are disappointed that she was able to leave the country without being apprehended earlier. Her sister, Shiela Guo, has denied any involvement in her escape or in the illegal gaming operations.
Despite facing serious charges, Guo appeared to be in good spirits upon her return. She was photographed smiling and taking selfies, suggesting that she may be trying to portray a positive image.
The PNP has confirmed that Guo will be held in an ordinary detention room and will not be allowed to use any electronic devices. She is expected to post bail for the graft and corruption cases filed against her before a court in Capas, Tarlac. After posting bail, Guo will be turned over to the Senate to face further questioning regarding her alleged involvement in illegal activities.
