Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, the leader of Kingdom of Jesus Christ, surrendered to the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP) on Sunday evening, according to Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos.
Abalos shared a photo of Quiboloy with his lawyer Israelito Torreon on Facebook, announcing the capture. The pastor had been on the run since August 24, following a police search of his compound in Davao City.
While Abalos claimed that Quiboloy was "caught," the pastor's lawyer, Ferdinand Topacio, stated that the surrender was voluntary and not the result of an arrest. Topacio criticized Abalos for seeming to take credit for the non-existent arrest.
The Philippine National Police had been actively pursuing Quiboloy, with the AFP providing support. The AFP spokesperson, Colonel Francel Margareth Padilla, confirmed the military's involvement in the operation but emphasized that the primary responsibility for the arrest lay with the police.
