Lewis Stevenson, a 26-year-old British influencer, lost his life on Sunday morning while attempting to scale Spain's highest bridge without safety equipment. The tragic incident occurred on the 630-foot Castilla La Mancha bridge in Talavera de la Reina.
Despite his family's pleas to reconsider the dangerous climb, Stevenson persisted in his risky endeavor. His grandfather, Clifford Stevenson, expressed his deep sorrow and shared that they had repeatedly tried to dissuade him from such dangerous activities.
Tributes poured in for Stevenson, with his heartbroken girlfriend, Savannah Parker, leading the mourning. She revealed that the last words he said to her were "Good night, I love you" the night before his fatal fall.
Savannah, who accompanied him to Malta last September, recalled her fear during a previous dangerous climb. She shared, "I said to him, 'I don't know how you do this all the time.' I was so scared of making one wrong move and that being it."
Fellow daredevils and friends expressed their grief and shared their memories of Stevenson. Louie_W1, a friend who shared his passion for "rooftopping," wrote on Instagram, "Knowing you has been one of the greatest privileges of my life... You will always be the bravest, most caring and funny person I've ever known."
Vil1iany, another daredevil, praised Stevenson's fearless mentality and the impact he had on his life. He wrote, "You've been a prominent figure to me for a while and your fearless mentality will stick with me for the rest of my life."
Stevenson's Instagram page, "expedition," showcased his daring adventures around the world, including photos of him atop a New York skyscraper and hanging from a structure in Croatia.
Authorities in Spain confirmed that Stevenson was accompanied by a 24-year-old friend, who was said to be in shock but unlikely to face criminal charges. The pair had scaled a quarter of the bridge before the tragic accident occurred.
The Talavera de la Reina Town Council issued a statement emphasizing that climbing the bridge is strictly prohibited. Local councillor Macarena Munoz confirmed that Stevenson's body was found at 7:14 AM on Sunday.
Investigators are examining the possibility of adverse weather conditions contributing to the accident, as heavy rain was reported in the area before the tragedy.
Stevenson's girlfriend, Savannah, revealed that he had lost consciousness before falling. She shared that he was not feeling well and had expressed his desire to go back down. However, he lost consciousness and slipped.
She also mentioned that Stevenson had a history of engaging in dangerous activities and had always been drawn to adventure.
