A 62-year-old grandfather from Lucena City, Quezon Province, has showcased his ingenuity by creating a remote-controlled airplane using recycled materials. The invention was featured on ABS-CBN News' "Kaagapay ng Bayan."
Eddie Manuelito Navarro, a skilled mechanic with a passion for radio-controlled models, developed the airplane as a way to exercise his mind and reflexes. Inspired by his father's electrical expertise, Eddie inherited a talent for crafting mechanisms.
Although he dreamed of becoming a pilot, life's challenges prevented him from pursuing that path. Eddie completed his first year of preparatory engineering but had to discontinue his studies to become a technician. His father's early passing forced him to start working at a TV factory in Quezon Province at the age of 17.
Despite not realizing his dream of flying, Eddie's fascination with aviation remained. A serendipitous discovery of an aeronautics book in the trash sparked his idea to build a remote-controlled airplane. Through self-study and experimentation, Eddie learned to calculate horsepower and developed his own formulas for airplane design.
Eddie's talent and creativity have not gone unnoticed. He has earned additional income by taking commissions to build remote-controlled airplanes for others.
