Despite facing various charges and being incarcerated, Pastor Apollo Quiboloy has announced his candidacy for a Senate seat in the 2025 midterm elections.
On the final day for filing Certificates of Candidacy (COCs), Quiboloy's authorized representative submitted the COC at the Manila Hotel Tent City. His legal counsel, Mark Tolentino, outlined Quiboloy's motivations for running.
"His focus for running is rooted in his faith and his love for the Philippines," Tolentino explained. "His platform will be God-centered, Philippine-centered, and Filipino-centered, particularly in terms of legislation as a senator."
Tolentino emphasized Quiboloy's priorities: "His top priority is religious freedom. Second, he aims to protect the poor, especially in terms of healthcare, free medicine, and fast medical services. Pastor Quiboloy will be the senator for the poor, the ordinary Filipinos, and the workers. He will be approachable and willing to listen to all the problems of the people."
In addition to religion and health, Tolentino stated that Quiboloy is committed to improving education in the Philippines. "He will focus on providing massive quality education and combating corruption."
Quiboloy, known as a close friend and spiritual advisor of former President Rodrigo Duterte, is currently facing qualified human trafficking and sexual abuse charges. He is detained at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center at Camp Crame in Quezon City. In September, Quiboloy was apprehended at the KOJC compound in Davao City after a multi-day search by authorities.
