Willie Revillame, a renowned TV host and game show icon, has officially entered the race for a Senate seat, filing his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) on October 8th, the deadline for submissions.
This marks Revillame's first foray into elective politics. Unlike his previous political endeavors, he's running independently, without any backing from sitting presidents or politicians.
In 2021, Revillame declined an offer from former President Rodrigo Duterte to join his Senate slate for the 2022 elections. Instead, he lent his support to the Tutok to Win Party-list, which was inspired by his popular online game show launched during the pandemic.
The party-list, represented by businessman Sam Versoza, secured a significant number of votes in the 2022 elections.
Revillame's "Tutok to Win" game show was later integrated into his long-running program, "Wowowin," which aired on GMA 7. After his contract with GMA Network ended in 2022, the show briefly moved to ALLTV before concluding its run there in April 2023.
In a surprising turn of events, Revillame signed a new deal with TV5 Network Inc. and MediaQuest Holdings in April 2024, marking his return to the network.
