Mexico City, Mexico – Miss Philippines Chelsea Manalo left a stunning impression during the preliminary competition of the 73rd Miss Universe pageant held on Thursday night (Friday morning, Manila time).
Manalo's striking national costume, "Hiraya Manawari," designed by renowned Filipino designer Manny Halasan, paid homage to the historical and cultural ties between the Philippines and Mexico. The intricate ensemble, adorned with traditional Filipino fabrics and inspired by religious iconography, showcased the harmonious blend of faith and heritage.
Halasan explained, "This National Costume symbolizes the deep historical connection between the Philippines and Mexico, reflecting both countries’ shared belief that faith guides us through life."
Manalo's elegance continued into the evening gown competition, where she wore a flowing blue gown, also designed by Halasan. The designer described the gown as a representation of a young girl's dream come true, emphasizing the importance of faith, simplicity, and authenticity.
Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach expressed her admiration for Manalo's performance, praising her grace and poise.
As the competition heats up, 125 contestants vie for the coveted Miss Universe crown. The Top 30 delegates, who will advance to the semifinals, will be announced during the 2024 Miss Universe finals on Saturday (Sunday morning, Manila time).
