  • Misinformation Alert: DOH Calls Out False Claims of HIV-Contaminated Needles in Blood Tests

Manila, Philippines  -  The Department of Health (DOH) is urging the public to disregard a false social media post claiming that needles used in blood tests are contaminated with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The post has been circulating online, causing unnecessary fear and alarm.

The DOH, in an official advisory,  assured the public that the claim is completely unfounded. "The Philippine National Police has also debunked this message, confirming that it is a scare tactic with no factual basis," the DOH stated.

The false post describes individuals posing as members of a "Faculty of Medicine" visiting homes and offering blood sugar tests. It alleges that the needles used in these tests are contaminated with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.

The DOH strongly advises the public to avoid sharing such unverified information, which can easily spread panic and misinformation.  "The public is enjoined to source information only from legitimate sources and platforms such as the health department," the advisory emphasized.

This incident highlights the dangers of misinformation spreading rapidly through social media.  It is crucial for individuals to be critical of information they encounter online and to verify its authenticity before sharing it with others.

The DOH remains committed to providing accurate and reliable health information to the public.  In case of any doubts or concerns, the public is encouraged to consult with healthcare professionals or refer to official DOH channels for verified information.
