Ginebra win championship on Game 6 against Meralco

Ginebra San Miguel finally hoist their first championship trophy in eight years as they look to finish off the Meralco Bolts in Game Six of the best-of-seven Oppo PBA Governors’ Cup finals Wednesday at SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Ginebra is within reach of a long-coveted crown after erasing a 2-1 deficit by winning back-to-back in Game Four and Game Five.

The Gin Kings came away with a 92-81 victory in Game Five on Sunday thanks to Justin Brownlee who scored 29 points, and Japeth Aguilar who added 16 points, eight rebounds and three blocks.

It was the first double-digit win by either teams in the series which otherwise had featured intensely close games.

The Gin Kings also hope to enjoy contributions from veterans LA Tenorio, Mark Caguioa, Jayjay Helterbrand and Sol Mercado, among others.

But standing in Ginebra’s way is Meralco which is eager to bounce back and force a deciding Game Seven on Friday.

The Bolts lean on once again on import Allen Durham, who had 20 points, 18 rebounds and six assists in Game Five, as well as the likes of Reynel Hugnatan, Chris Newsome, Cliff Hodge and Jimmy Alapag.
