Philippine Labor Department launched OFW ID: How to Apply?

Manila, Philippines - The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) launch a unified identification system for OFW, the identification card will replace the Overseas Employment  Certificate (OEC).

"This will serve as your OEC...so they don't have to go to the POEA(Philippine Employment Administration) every time they go and come back. All they have to do is to show their ID," Bello said in a press briefing. The POEA has scrapped the OEC in August last year for returning OFWs and those hired through agency's in-house recruitment, in response to President Rodrigo Duterte's directive to streamline the process.

This will be launched on July 12, "This is the best gift of our President to OFWs," said labor secretary. The ID features basic information of the worker, the ID will also serve as the migrant workers Social Security System(SSS), Pag-ibig Fund, and PhilHealth membership IDs. The department is also studying together with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Department of Justice(DOJ) the possibility of using the ID as a passport.
