Manila, Philippines - On Wednesday, the House of Representatives approved the bill that seeks to legalise the use of medical marijuana.
The Philippine Compassionate Medical Cannabis Act or the House Bill 6517 is a measure "providing compassionate and right of access to medical cannabis and expanding research into its medicinal properties."
If implemented into law, the measure will establish Medical cannabis Compassionate Centers (MCCC) which are authorized to sell, supply and dispense cannabis to qualified patients or S3-licensed pharmacists.
It can be recalled that Duterte had stirred controversy by saving that he sometimes takes the substances to stay awake.
Also, the issue gained attention when the Philippine candidate to the Miss Universe Catriona Gray speaks about her support to medical marijuana.
