The Philippines, Indonesia and Japan formally accepted the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) flag from China on Sunday, September 15.
The symbolic ceremony of flag distribution for the three countries to co-host 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup was held in the sideline event of 2019 FIBA World Cup in Beijing.
The chairman of the Chinese Basketball Association, Yao Ming, turned over the flag to Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas (SBP) Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan, who attended the ceremony along with Japan and Indonesia's representatives.
“We are extremely happy that FIBA has decided to award the hosting right for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 to Philippines/Japan/Indonesia. The World Cup is an event that fans of basketball in these three countries are very proud of and hosting it will allow to spread the basketball fever across the three countries and the region,” Manuel V. Pangilinan said.
