8 dead, more than 100 people hospitalized of suspected poisoning after drinking lambanog in Laguna

Atleast 8 persons are confirmed dead Sunday from alleged poisoning after drinking lambanog, or palm wine in Rizal, Laguna and Candelaria, Quezon on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.

Authorities said the victims has attended several different Christmas parties and consumed lambanog from the same shop.

Rizal Mayor Vener Muñuz said that over 100 others complained of pain after drinking lambanog, they brought to the nearby hospital and others are in Philippine General Hospital (PGH) in Manila for treatment due to alleged methanol poisoning.

Around 125 patients and 7 of whom are in critical condition which was admitted as of 8PM, Sunday, December 22, at the Philippine General Hospital.

In a Facebook account of Laguna Governor Ramil Hernandez said he has banned the sale of lambanog in the province as the investigation continue.

"Ang inyo pong lingkod ay nag uutos ng pagban muna ng pagbebenta ng Lambanog sa ating lalawigan habang nag iimbestiga pa po ang ating kapulisan sa naganap na pagkalason ng maraming tao sa bayan ng Rizal, Laguna. Ipinaaabot ko rin po ang aking pakikiramay sa mga namatayan at para naman po sa mga kasalukuyang nasa pagamutan ipag dasal po natin ang kanilang mabilis na pag galing. Nakahanda rin po tumulong ang inyong lingkod sa lahat ng biktima ng pagkalason," Gov. Ramil Hernandez said.
