220 pairs of happy couples were required to wear a surgical masks at a mass wedding ceremony in Bacolod City amid the coronavirus scare. The "Kasalan ng Bayan" was officiated by Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia at the Bacolod Government Center, February 20, 2020.
City Health Office (CHO) distributed a free hand sanitizers and surgical masks for the couples as well as to all the attendees.The couples were also required to fill out health declaration forms, stating their health and travel history to ensure health safety as government's preventive measure against deadly coronavirus.
Pictures surfaced online showed couples attempting to lock lips through the surgical masks.
Mayor Leonardia said that his administration wants to establish stronger families in Bacolod.
“If our families are strong, the city of Bacolod becomes strong, too,” he added.
The city government has been sponsoring mass weddings annually as part of traditional post-Valentines treat to Bacolaños.
