Quezon City Opens 'Bring Your Own Bottle Store' Aims To Help Reduce Plastic Waste In The City

Quezon City is now making the move on how to mitigate plastic problem in the metro.

Recently, a "Bring Your Own Bottle Store" pilot project in the city has been opened - where people can bring their own reusable bottle and refill them with products such as vinegar, soy sauce, and cooking oil to a very reasonable price.

These effort is part of the "city's strong commitment to environmental sustainability," according to the Facebook post.

Belmonte recently approved Ordinance No. 2876 which prohibits the use and distribution of single-use plastics and other disposable materials. Restaurants and hotels are mandated to fully comply with the said Ordinance by July 2020. 

The BYOB store is located inside the Quezon City Hall compound and is open to refill bottles from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays to Fridays.

The Philippines as an archipelago of more than 7,100 islands has been identified as the third-worst ocean plastic polluter in the world after China and Indonesia, according to a global 2015 study.
