Young Hero Doctor Dies Due To COVID-19 After Patient Lied About Travel History

Young cardiologist doctor from the Philippine Heart Center died Saturday after battling from coronavirus disease, allegedly from the patient who lied about her travel history.

34-year-old Dr. Israel Bactol passing was confirmed by the hospital through its Facebook page and website.




“It is a sad day for the whole association as we have lost one of our own in the fight against COVID. He is a casualty of this war. We honor him as he lost his young life while fulfilling his duties as a doctor, a young cardiologist and a dedicated member of PHA (Philippine Heart Association),” the PHA announced in its Facebook account.

“Please pray for the eternal repose of his soul. Please pray for all our members and all our other doctors and healthcare workers in the frontlines and all the people who are afflicted by the disease.”

Condolences and memories flooded on social media for Bactol, whom many of his friends called him Dr.B.

Dr. B hails from Peñaranda, Nueva Ecija. He finished college by his own sweat as a scholar and eventually a breadwinner for his family.  One of his colleague and friend Eric Cabahug took to social media and revealed how Dr.B allegedly acquired the disease.





It has a few cases then when a patient went to his clinic sometime in February. The patient had flu-like symptoms but allegedly lied about his travel history. So, Dr. B. continue on entertaining the patient without using any protections for his body.

It was only days after he knew that the patient had traveled from China according to the family, after the patient's condition worsened due to coronavirus. 

The patient passed away in early March. 

Because of the incident, many doctors and nurses including some of his patients exposed to him had to undergo quarantine.
