China Reports 57 New Coronavirus Cases, A Record High In 2 Months

China has reported a highest daily total of new COVID-19 cases in two months which recorded 57 as of June 14. The new outbreak has been linked to a meat and vegetable market in south Beijing - where 36 are locally transmitted infections in the capital.

"The Xinfadi market on Beijing’s southeastern side was closed Saturday and neighboring residential compounds locked down after more than 50 people in the capital tested positive for the coronavirus. They were the first confirmed cases in 50 days in the city of 20 million people," Time reported.

Police have been deployed at the Xinfadi market in south Beijing wearing masks and gloves.

China previously announced that they were able to control the coronavirus outbreak by implementing strict lockdown early this year. The new cases have prompted authorities to close down schools and prohibit mass gatherings.
