Extreme winter storm leaves millions of Americans without power

At least 3 million people across the United States are currently without power amid severe temperature drop.

More Public Safety workers were deployed especially in the U.S. state of Texas for welfare checks. Authorities have asked people to help conserve energy during the storm as the power demand is expected to exceed supply over the next few days.

At least 23 people have died since winter storm started. According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Warning has been issued for parts of southeast Texas from 9 p.m. local time Saturday until 6 p.m. Monday.

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for other parts of southeast Texas, including the country’s fourth largest city of Houston. It will be in effect from Sunday afternoon through Monday afternoon.

Frigid Arctic air and dangerous wind chills were forecast in the Great Plains and Mississippi Valley through midweek, the National Weather Service said.
