Three siblings ordained as priests at the same time

Three siblings were ordained into priesthood at the same time in Cagayan de Oro City. The Avenido brothers, Jestonie(29 y.o.), Jessie James (30 y.o.), and Jerson Rey(28 y.o.) were ordained on the Feast of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, September 8.

The proud parents, Gallardo and Barbara Avenido stood proudly nest their three children during the photo ops.

The ceremony took place at the Saint Augustine Metropolitan Cathedral, and it was officiated by Cagayan de Oro Archbishop Jose Cabantan.

During the Eucharistic celebration, Cabantan said many were amazed that the three brothers will be ordained to the priesthood and that it even caught the attention of the media. The Archbishop admitted that he never ordained three brothers into one congregation before, all at once.

"I think it has caught the attention of some media outlets first time to her that there are three brothers who will receive the sacred ordination to the presbyterate," he said.

The Knights of Columbus in Virac Diocese called it "unprecedented and a gift to the Catholic Church."

The three have different ambitions in life, and priesthood is not their choice. Fr. Jestonie wanted to become a teacher, Fr. Jerson Rey dreamed to becoming a doctor, and Fr. Jessie James initially wanted to become a police officer or an electrical engineer.

Meanwhile, the siblings' father is a farmer and security guard while their mother is a babysitter.

Father Jessie Avenido:

"We did not come from a rich family but we are very rich in out love for the Lord and his Church."
