BROOKLYN SUBWAY SHOOTING INJURES AT LEAST 23, MANHUNT FOR SUSPECT UNDERWAY

Police have identified a "person of interest" after a madman disguised as a construction worker detonate two smoke grenades and open fire at Brooklyn's 36th Street Station in the early morning rush on Tuesday.

New York City police were looking for Frank R James, 62, in connection with the attack as he had rented a U-Haul van that may be linked to the shooting. The key was found at the subway crime scene.

Video footage posted on social media showed passengers tending to bloodied victims lying on a smoke-filled station platform.

Passengers from the chaotic scene showed screaming passengers spilling out onto the platform as as the train doors opened and a smoke coming out on the way.

Mass casualty shootings happen with relative frequency in the United States, where firearms are involved in approximately 40,000 deaths a year, including suicides, according to the Gun Violence Archive website.
