HIDILYN DIAZ WINS 2ND STRAIGHT SEAG GOLD MEDAL

Hidilyn Diaz snatched another gold for the second straight Southeast Asian Games on Friday.

Diaz successfully lifted a total of 206 kilograms, reigning the women's 55kg division in the 31st SEAG weightlifting competition held in Hanoi Sports Training and Competition Center in Vietnam.

The Philippines' first and only Olympic champion took a tight battle with the Thai weightlifter Sanikun Tanasan who successfully snatch the 93 kg division record, while Diaz failed to lift the 94 kg in her last attempt.

However, the Zamboanga native came back full of determination and begin her clean and jerk with 114 kg on first attempt. Tanasan, who has a good start for 104 and 110 kg lifts failed to match the 114-kg lift of Diaz, paving the way for the Philippine gold.

On her final two attempts, Diaz tried the 118 and 121 kg lifts, but she did not succeed.

Sanikun ended up with 203 kg, while Indonesia's Natasya Beteyob placed third with 188 kg total.
