The captain of a luxury superyacht that sank off Sicily last week is under investigation for potential manslaughter.
James Cutfield, a New Zealand national, was one of 15 survivors of the incident that claimed seven lives, including British tech tycoon Mike Lynch and his daughter.
Italian prosecutors are investigating potential crimes of negligent shipwreck and manslaughter in connection with the sinking of the yacht during a storm in August. While no suspects have been named, the investigation is ongoing.
Lynch had invited friends and family aboard to celebrate his recent acquittal in a U.S. fraud case. The 56-meter yacht was struck by a mini-tornado while anchored near Palermo.
After the sinking, search and rescue teams recovered the bodies of six of the missing individuals, including Lynch and his daughter. The yacht remains submerged on the seabed.
