After losing the opening day to Canada, Gilas regained momentum and bounced back with a convincing 88-72 win against Chinese Taipei A or Taiwan Blue during the 2017 William Jones Cup on Sunday, July 16, 2017 in Taipei, Taiwan.
Christian Standhardinger scored 17 points and 16 rebounds, Matthew Wright finished 17 points, and Kiefer Ravena share 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists to help the team beat Taiwanese national team.

Gilas settled down and controlled the tournament, quickly built 10-points leads early on and weathered the Taiwanese's 3-point shooting. But, Taiwan seemed to consistently pose a threat, but Gilas refuses to intimidate and started the defense which amped up its intensity,Gilas went up by as many as 10 points. Matthew Wright found his stroke once again, putting up 17 points off the bench on triples.
Gilas will next face Chinese Taipei B on Monday, July 17.
