Philippines Diwata-2 microsatellite is near completion

After a successful launched of the first ever Philippine microsatellite Diwata-1, the Philippine engineers and scientist are now preparing for Diwata-2, the second micro satellite to be send soon into orbit.

The project is under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) through its partner, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (Jaxa).

Diwata-1 that was designed, developed and assembled in Japan by nine pioneering Filipino engineers and scientist along with their "sensei" instructors from Tohoku University and Hokkaido University. The Diwata-1 was launched into the international Space Station onboard the orbital ATK's Cygnus spacecraft on March 23, 2016. It was deployed from the ISS into her orbit on April 27 by the Japanese Experimental Module (JEM) - 400 km above Earth's surface.

Diwata 1 & 2 involves the establishment of the facility for the ground receiving station to receive imagery and data. The microsatellite will perform several applications based on its mission which will cover environmental monitoring and disaster mitigation.
