A baby boy that has been born with three penises is the first in human history ever. According to the doctors in the northern part of the country, near Mosul, it has only one functional so the other two attached to the actual penis were surgically removed.
“To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case with three penises or triphallia,” wrote Dr. Shakir Saleem Jabali in a study on the treble-membered tyke published in the International Journal of Surgery Case Reports.
The baby was initially brought to the hospital by his parents when he was three months old due to swelling in the scrotum. However, when the doctor checked, they observed that he had some extras - one 2-cm sprouting near the root of his primary penis and the other one is 1-cm long situated under his scrotum.
Doctor are baffled over the cause as the child has never been exposed to drugs during pregnancy and no family history of genetic abnormalities. Fortunately, no problems were have been found in a follow-up checkup after a year of operation.
The International Journal of Surgery Case published about this rare phenomenon. The paper was written by Shakir Saleem Jabali and Ayad Ahmed Mohammed. "Triphallia (three penises) is an unreported condition until now. It affects one in every 5-6 million live births. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case with three penises or triphallia," the study said.
This very case is considered to be the first-ever case of Triphallia as it was documented. According to the Daily Mail, a similar case was reported in 2015 where a boy in India had three penises. Since it was not recorded in a medical journal, it was not seen as the first case of the same.
