Google has officially made the source code for Android 15 available on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). While this is significant news for developers, Pixel users will need to wait a bit longer for the stable update.
Originally scheduled for September, the Android 15 update for Pixel devices is now expected to arrive in October. Historically, Google has released Pixel updates concurrently with the AOSP source code release.
In the interim, Google has been keeping Pixel owners engaged with the September 2024 security patch, which includes fixes for a security vulnerability and enhanced Wi-Fi performance for the Pixel 9 series.
Other smartphone manufacturers, including Samsung, OnePlus, and Xiaomi, have already obtained pre-release versions of Android 15. This head start allows them to develop their own customized skins based on the new operating system. Samsung, for example, is preparing to unveil its One UI 7 skin in early October.
