Letran student kidnapped by fellow classmate rescued

Anti-kidnapping police group rescued the 19-year-old Letran student who was kidnapped by his classmate. The Star reported that the National Police chief Oscar Albayalde said the AKG operatives also arrested four of the classmates who allegedly abducted the student, it was identified to be studying at Colegio de San Juan de Letran in Manila.

The victim together with his classmate Jhulius Atabay was waiting for a bus near the central station of the Light Railway Transit in Lawton, Manila around 9:30 pm of August 1. Three men alledgely grabbed them and forced them to board a van, according to ABS-CBN's report.

The victim's father received a call from Atabay past 9pm. Atabay informed the father of Roy's kidnapping and the ransom demand of Php30 million.

Due to the inconsistency of the details given by Atabay to father's victim, then the father reported the matter to the police.

The father then reported the situation to the police. PNP's anti-kidnapping group tracked Atabay and arrested him in Balut, tondo in Manila, where they also saw the victim. 

PNP's head of anti-kidnapping group Glenn Dumlao said, however, Atabay turned out to be the mastermind of the kidnapping.

Aside from Atabay, those arrested were Ferdinand dela Vega Jr.,and Ralph Emmanuel Camaya, both Letran students, and Justine Mahipus, a student of the College of the Saint Benilde. Other suspects who are at large are Eriel Candava, Billy Rocillo, Miguel Austria and Kim Pascual, all studying at Letran.
