Airless tires soon available from GM and Michelin

An airless tire will be soon available and expects a hassle free ride not worrying any flat tire while on the road. Michelin has partnered with General Motors for actual production of Michelin Uptis tire.

"The Uptis is designed to handle not just the weight of a real car like  the old Tweel, but also be able to provide proper grip and durability at highway speeds, too," autoblog reported.

Airless tech reduces the need for environmentally harmful tire production, and eliminates the need for a spare tire that adds weight and shrinks fuel economy. They'd also help autonomous vehicles drive around the clock without fear that a stray nail will ruin a trip.

The Michelin Uptis Prototype is tested on a Chevrolet Bolt EV Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at the General Motors Milford Proving Ground in Milford, Michigan. GM intends to develop this airless wheel assembly with Michelin and aims to introduce it on passenger vehicles as early as 2024. (Photo by Steve Fecht for General Motors).
