Gapan Mayor earns online praise for providing every family one sack of rice, live chicken amidst community quarantine

While we understand the difficulty to deal people so that they will stay at home, this Mayor in Gapan City, Nueva Ecija has earned praises online for showing above and beyond service to his constituents amid the Luzon enhanced community quarantine implementation.

During these difficult times, Gapan Mayor Emeng Pascual become a superhero in his town as he set-aside politics by providing each families with one sack of rice (50kgs) and a live chicken. On his Facebook video post, it can be seen the mayor personally carrying and delivering sacks of rice to his people.

Apart from that, the mayor also provisioned 3,000 eggs to be distributed daily to the residents of Gapan. 


What's even more impressive is that Mayor Pascual is allegedly donating all his savings from his salary, since he took office. In a viral post, a netizens detailed what the mayor did for his people to protect the city of Gapan.

"He donated P4.5 million, which are savings from his salary that he had been setting aside ever since he became mayor of Gapan, because the city is short of funds by P16 million."

"He also added that he will add P1.5 million to the P4.5 million so that the total will be P6 million."



"The remaining P10 million can be sourced from (barangay chair) Boy Pascual and from (provincial board member) Joy Pascual," said the post.

Gapan has an estimated population of 110,000 with 34,000 households, according to the mayor.

The Mayor also urged their farmers not to sell their harvest outside the town because the local government will buy it for their people. Gapan is now also under lockdown to assure that no coronavirus will spread.
