Angel Locsin says sorry as man died lining up at her community pantry, crowd defying health protocols

Angel Locsin's birthday treat turned wild as crowd outside her community pantry in Quezon City failed to observe social distancing, causing other people to collapse.

The 67-year-old Rolando Dela Cruz, collapsed while queueing at Barangay Holy Spirit for his turn. He was rushed to the nearest hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Locsin, who is celebrating her birthday announced a day before the community pantry opening that she will provide free food for those suffering from the economic impact and to honor Filipinos behind the 'bayanihan' spirit.

Hundreds of people showed up and according to her that it was initially in order, but later turned out chaotic as massive crowd tried to break the line.

“Pasensya na po. Hindi po ito ang intensyon ko. Gusto ko lang po makatulong sa mga tao,” she said in a video statement posted on Instagram.

"Nagsimula naman kami ng maayos po, though mahaba yung pila, may social distancing po siya..."

"Yung mga walang stub po ata sumingit sa pila, naiintindihan ko naman po kasi kanina pa din naman sila nag-iintay pero yun po yung naging dahilan kung bakit nagsiksikan pero nagsimula naman po kami na maayos talaga," she added.
