China bans kids and teens from playing video games more than three hours per week

Starting September 1, 2021, China will limit young gamers from playing online for not more than three hours a week.

While authorities have expressed concern over gaming impact on the society, young players took to social media to express outrage.

The National Press and Publication Administration (NPPA) said in a notice that children could play games between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Fridays and weekends. Also, under the new rule, gamers can play for an hour during public holidays.

Previously, gamers below 18 year-old are allowed to play 90 minutes a day.

Online video gamers will be required to connect to an "anti-addiction" system operated by the National Press and Publication Administration. Gamers are required  to register using their real names and government-issued identification documents.

This current restrictions would give a major blow to the global gaming industry that caters to tens of millions of young players in the world's biggest gaming market.
