KOKO PIMENTEL PROPOSES COMPUTER PROGRAMMING SUBJECT IN K TO 12

Sen. Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III proposed to the Department of Education (DepEd) to include computer programming subject in its basic education curriculum.

In his Senate Bill 79 or the proposed Philippine Computer Programming Education Act, Pimentel note that, "One field of science which we need to expose our students to and prepare them to compete in is computer science, particularly the subject of computer programming."

Under the bill, age-appropriate computer programming must be taught as a separate subject in Grades 4 to 12.

"What am I after is, at the earliest possible time, our youth would take an interest in computer programming, computer science, because they will grow up in a highly technical and scientific world anyway, where a lot of goods may be digital already, a lot of service will be delivered online," Pimentel explained.
